Churnalism Today - Dayna: Queen of the Shillers

Over my years as a journalist I have been sickened by the BBC and the rest of the local legacy media. Mostly they have been blatantly biased, or pathetic sycophants, from toadying Nic Owen to nasty Jayne Haynes. The big joke is that they have totally failed to investigate real scandals across the region whilst claiming to be the heirs of Bernstein & Woodward.

But like greasers in all walks of life the monthly pay-check trumps integrity, and skews the moral compass. Now these grovellers have to overtly sell a particular political line and/or tacky products to keep the money rolling in. And boy, they have no problem doing that!

Thus one sees the likes of “Rimmer Rob” Mayor become the BBC’s local anti-Reform attack dog taking verbatim instructions from one of Sandwell Labour’s vilest Councillors, Paul “The Cipher” Moore. (Incidentally, the BBC is so stuffed with licence-payers money it recently paid THREE - yes, 3 - of them, including “Rimmer Rob”, to write a short article on, er, unemployment! You couldn’t make it up - although some local “journos” do.)

On the product side, surely the most shameless shiller is Dayna Farrington - another one who claims to be a real journalist whilst pumping out a constant stream of “adverts” for everything from £2.40 M&S knickers to £55 Amazon hair straighteners. She is so utterly craven, she puts her name to different versions of the same advert. Thus she shills a £10 lip balm which apparently allowed a woman to ease her suffering after she was unable to kiss her husband at her wedding. Just days later Dayna told readers that the very same balm had, er, “saved the life” of a woman who was dumped by her boyfriend after “a cold sore row”. Yes her output (seemingly syndicated across the Reach - aka Retch - media network and purporting to be local “news”) is that sickening!

“Life saving” products are frequently shilled by Farrington including a 79p (or pee) bladder supplement. She will soon be overtaking the AA as the mythical “fourth emergency service).

I am not sure if Dayna considers herself a feminist but she bombards her female readers with incessant exhortations to buy “must have” clothes and cosmetics. Sometimes the messages get a little mixed - whilst she tempts the sisterhood to spend £40 on a flattering beach dress which “hides tummies”, she exhorts them to fill their faces in fast food [sic] outlet “Pop Street” “where everyone gets what they crave”. As far as I can see she has not yet tried to flog a bucket to be sick in after satiating ones craving for a calorific Nutella and Oreo Pancake at this joint.

No inner voice appears to whisper to the conscience of Dayna as she churns out ever more of this utter bullsh*t, but if her sleep is ever disturbed she can, at least, take her own advice and purchase “warm and cosy bedding” for just £15.

Farrington is currently in overdrive with her “journalism” focussed on Black Friday and Christmas shopping. Once again, her focus is almost entirely aimed at women. And again, if her sisters over-indulge during the festive season Dayna can recommend a classic satin skirt which “skims” over her hated female tums. Or they could run to Brum’s adult Immersive Laser experience where Dayna alleges she burnt more calories than 30 minutes on a treadmill”.

No doubt when she gets older and is asked about anything she is proud of, she can point to pressing parents to fork out £60 for a Toniebox - “perfect for small hands”. As Catherine Tate’s “Foul Mouthed Nan” might say, “what a load of f****** sh*t”.
